Gloria Ruth Schon, age 91, of Lytton, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.  Gloria was born on June 10, 1926, to Roy and Evangline (Sylvester) Cox in Yetter, IA.  She started country school in Yetter and in 1933 the family moved to Lytton where Gloria graduated from Lytton Consolidated High School in 1944.

   Gloria worked for two years for Marie and John Schon in the mornings, taking care of their two small girls, and in the afternoon worked at the grocery store.   In the fall of 1945, Clarence Schon arrived in Lytton just out of the Army after four years of service during the worst of World War II.  He lived with John and Marie Shon and worked in their Hatchery business in Lytton.  Clarence and Gloria got acquainted and started going together and fell in love.  They were married June 16, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City.  Three children were born to this union, Jeri Michelle, Mary Lynne, and Michael LeRoy.  Gloria was a stay at home mom.  What a joy her children were to her, she was so proud of her family. 

   Gloria and Clarence made their home in Lytton; Clarence quit his job at the Hatchery and purchased a milk truck and two milk routes.  In the spring of 1952, he sold the truck and went back to work at the Hatchery owned by John and Marie Shon.  In 1968 they were able to purchase the Hatchery business.  Gloria and Clarence worked together until they sold it in 1980.  They traveled, vacationed and fished, enjoying retirement, and usually if you saw one the other was close by.  Clarence got sick in the summer of 1988 and passed away March 3, 1989.  Gloria continued to live in the house they built in 1950 just north of the city park until her health forced her to enter Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City in May 2017.

   Survivors include her son, Michael (Valery) Schon of Peoria, AZ; grandchildren:  Shelly Hoogandoom, Kristy (Grant) Lopresti, Tammy (Chris) Funkhooser, and LeRoy Blessington; Lisa (Bruce) Homer and Jessy (Lacy) Jarvis; Lynn (Scott) Doherty, Duane McKenna, Doug McKenna (and their mom Joyce Schon McKenna); Danny Petty, Kimmy Petty, and Melissa Petty (Valery Schon’s children); 13 great-grandchildren: 9 great-great grandchildren; son-in-law Lyle Blessington of Mesa, AZ; son-in-law Gary (Teresa) Jarvis of Panama City Beach, FL; and extended family members.

   Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence; daughters: Jeri Blessington and Mary Jarvis; and granddaughter Teresa Jarvis.
