Blaine Alan Blessington, age 71, of Sac City, IA, passed away at his home in Sac City on Monday, October 23, 2017. Blaine was born on March 24, 1946, in Lake City, IA, to Melvin and Beth (Fleming) Blessington. He attended Lake View-Auburn Community Schools graduating in 1964.
Following graduation, Blaine was inducted into the United States Army on October 7, 1965, serving through October 6, 1967. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle) and attained SP-5 rank.
On March 29, 2013, after over 11 years together, Blaine was united in marriage to Annette Rohlfing in Sac City. They made their home near Sac City. Through the years, Blaine had worked at Firestone, Black Hawk Life Care Center, the Egyptian Vault Company and most recently MGM Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning Company, a job that he lovingly referred to as his first “cushy job”. He enjoyed fishing and working on projects (he was always working on projects), and spending time with his children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He loved his pets and enjoyed taking his dog for daily rides in the truck. He was an accomplished grill master, grilling and smoking meats for family gatherings. Blaine loved to tell stories about his years spent living in Florida, riding with the Lake View Saddle Club, and racing.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Annette; step-daughters: Nicole (Kyle) Timmerman of Lake City, and Mercedes Barlow and James of Sac City; step-son Justin Barlow and Jodie of Sac City; grandchildren: Riley, Justin, Kaley, Coltley, Easton, Camilla, Jaden, Dalaney, and Jasper. Other survivors include his sister Susan (Mike) Corderman of Wayland, IA; brother Randy Blessington of Albuquerque, NM; nephews and nieces: Clint (Angie) Corderman, Chance Corderman and fiancé Amanda, and Christa (Drew) Puhrmann, Shanna (Brandon) Carlin, Tracy (Steve) Smoley, Rhonda (David) Cramer, Melissa (Jasen) Britton; Sister-in-law Myrna Riley; extended family members; a host of friends; his dog Chloe and cat Flossy.
Blaine was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald, infant sister Sheila, and wife Susun.
