Lu Ann Smith, age 81, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at her home in Sac City, IA. Lu Ann Rae Stanfield was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1935, at McCrary-Rost Hospital in Lake City, IA to Paul Raymond and Augusta Kathryn (Laumbach) Stanfield. On February 20, 1955, Lu Ann was united in marriage to Walt Huster at the Lake City Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children: Valorie, Rusty, Roger, and Timothy. They made their home on the Huster family farm southeast of Sac City. She loved the farm, her family and her many friends, they were all very important to her. After 33 years of marriage Lu Ann and Walter were divorced. Lu Ann moved to Sac City.
Lu Ann’s strong faith in God helped her through the tough times. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Sac City, served as an elder and on several committees. She had a deep commitment to Chi Rho and the CYF programs. She treasured her church family.
Lu Ann was very proud of her children, watching them grow up, get married and become good parents. She felt blessed to have Jeff, Faye, Minnie and Sandi in her life. The title Grandma Lu Ann and Grandma Luie were ones she wore proudly. Her grandchildren were all so special to her in each their own way. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. She liked to roller skate, and really liked to play golf, she said it was very relaxing and she always had so much fun. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ and sharing her talents with her church family. She will be remembered for her collection of elephants and anything purple. Her other hobbies included reading, playing bridge, and other games. She also enjoyed being able to work most of her life. At a time when film was what we used, Lu Ann would have her camera with her at all times, catching many special memories.
On September 11, 1993, Lu Ann was united in marriage to Jon Smith at the First Christian Church in Sac City. Jon’s children, Brian and Krystal, completed her family.
