Marcella “Sally” (a name that her grandfather gave her) Kolb, age 97, of Lytton, IA, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at Sunny Knoll Care Center in Rockwell City, IA. Marcella was born on June 4, 1920, in Cedar Township, Sac County, IA, the daughter of Emil and Anna (Garms) Rix. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church on July 11, 1920 and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City. She attended school through the eighth grade in Douglas Township and graduated from Sac City High School in 1938.
On June 29, 1947, Sally was married to Marvin Kolb at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton. They were blessed with two children, Steve and Sara. They lived on a farm north east of Lytton, moving into Lytton in April 1982.
Sally was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked in homes in and around Sac City and as a dental assistant in the office of Dr. Molsberry. She was a longtime member of the Ruth Circle, served various offices, and six years as secretary to the church council. She was also a member of the Woman’s Club, History and Travel Club, and Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening and sewing projects.
Sally loved her family and especially enjoyed seeing her great-grandchildren in later years. She is survived by her son Steve Kolb and wife Jackie of Pocahontas; daughter Sara Carlson and husband Mike of Lytton; grandchildren: Amy (Tony) Hammen of Rockwell City and Kari (BJ) Musselman of Lake City; step grandchildren: Shanon and Joel Rohlfing; great-grandchildren: Heidi, Holly, and Keaton Hammen and Sam and Sally Musselman; step great-grandchildren: Derek, Kyle, Aaron and Logan Rohlfing. Other survivors include her sisters-in-law: Norma Rix of Arkansas and Lenore Rix of Nevada many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin; sister Mildred Smith; and brothers: Herbert, Don, Bob, Earl, and John.
