Irma Tounget, age 97, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA. Irma Margaret Kroeger was born on February 22, 1920, one of seven children, to Henry and Margaret Erdman Kroeger in Arcadia, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church. The Kroeger family lived in a farmhouse in rural Arcadia and Westside, IA, as she was growing up. Irma attended rural country school near Arcadia and graduated from Westside High School. Some of her happiest moments growing up were when her dad brought home a Christmas tree and they all went to Blackhawk Lake on the 4th of July for a picnic and swimming.
On March 16, 1939, Irma was united in marriage to Claude Harold Tounget at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church. They made Wall Lake, IA their home, and were blessed with four children: Stephen Ray (stillborn), Keith, Claudia, and Kathleen. Claude and Irma enjoyed taking many summer vacation trips to Colorado, Yellowstone and the Black Hills with their children. Sometimes they vacationed with friends. They visited California and Idaho where their son lived and attended the Clay County Fair every year with friends. In early years they enjoyed fishing trips.
In her younger years, Irma worked for National Oats in popcorn packaging, 17 years as a laundry supervisor at Twilight Acres Nursing Home, and did bookwork for her husband’s service station. Her greatest love was being a homemaker and caring for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Some of her best times of her life included: Sunday afternoon get-togethers with her parents and adult siblings, playing cards and good food to enjoy; birthday and anniversary parties with friends and family; and watching her children grow and attending their school activities. She also enjoyed playing most any card game with family, and especially Bridge with her Bridge Club members. She liked her morning coffee gathering with friends and was an avid sports fan and followed football games enthusiastically. She was active in the community serving on the Wall Lake Swimming Pool Board and the Wall Lake Women’s Club. Irma was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake and served as Deacon. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.
