Frank J. Zadow, age 92, of Early, Iowa, died on Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa.
Frank Junior Zadow, the son of Franz and Hertha (Hansen) Zadow was born on the family farm, 1 ½ miles south of Early, Iowa, on February 3, 1924. Frank was baptized on April 13, 1924 at the Immanuel Lutheran Cook Township Church and confirmed at the same church on April 10, 1938. He began his education at the Early Consolidated School and completed his education at the Early High School graduating with the Class of 1941.
On February 24, 1944, Frank was united in marriage to Verna Weitzel at the Immanuel Lutheran Cook Township Church at rural Odebolt and this union was blessed with three sons: Allan, Ronald, and David. Frank was devoted to his farming vocation and he and Verna resided on the family farm from 1944 until retiring from the farm in 1974. He was employed at the Early Elevator from 1974 until 1997.
Frank was a faithful member of the Faith Lutheran Church at Early where he had served as an elder and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Every week, Frank made sure the church was in readiness for the Sunday morning services. In addition to the church playing an important role in his life, Frank loved his grandchildren and enjoyed supporting and participating in their lives. All who knew Frank will remember how much he loved golfing as a favorite pastime. He and Verna felt blessed to have celebrated 64 years of marriage. Frank was a devoted husband and was truly lost after Verna’s passing in October 2008.
Frank’s life is honored and celebrated by his children which include: Allan F. (Diane) Zadow of Altoona, Iowa and David L. (Mary) Zadow of Omaha, Nebraska; his grandchildren: Jeffrey (Tonia) Zadow of Austin, Minnesota, Jason (Heather) Zadow of Portland, Oregon, Erica (Jay) McKean of Omaha, Nebraska, Brian (Missy) Zadow of Overland Park, Kansas, Emily Zadow and Ben Zadow of Omaha, Nebraska, Matthew Zadow of Houston, Texas and Dana (Mateus) Lamar of Wisconsin; his great grandchildren: Cora Anne Zadow and Ryder John Zadow, both of Portland, Oregon, Hunter William Peters and Elijah Jeffrey Zadow of Austin, Minnesota, and Kylin and Neyla McKean of Omaha, Nebraska; his sister-in-law: Ruth Zadow of Portland, Oregon; brother-in-law Lou Massey of Warsaw, Missouri; other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Franz and Hattie; his wife Verna; his son Ronald; and two brothers: Thomas and Clifford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Faith Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's research.
