Floris Leone Miller, age 95, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.  Floris was born on July 14, 1921, in rural Sac City to parents Pearl (Pattee) and Orla Irwin.  On June 16, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leonard Miller at the Pleasantville Church in rural Lake View, following his return from service in World War II.

Floris was a graduate of Sac City High School and taught country school for nine years west of town.  After her marriage and the birth of her three children, she began work at a new business in town, DaLe Monogramming Co, producing school athletic letters for teams throughout the Midwest.  She worked at the business from 1961 until her retirement in 1996, producing thousands of school letters.  She was talented and was the “go-to” person for the most difficult designs.

Floris was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City, where she taught Sunday school for many years.  She was also a longtime member of the Circle Three of the Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, and the Pond Party ladies club.  Floris was an avid reader, often reading as many as three books a week and enjoyed doing the Jumble puzzle in the daily paper.   She was known for many years to the neighborhood children as “Grandma Miller” for providing treats to both her children’s friends and those of her grandchildren.  Floris was an excellent listener and will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

Survivors include her three children:  Rick Miller of Des Moines, IA, Randal (Jene) Miller of Burlington, IA, and Renae (Joe) Jacobsen of rural Sac City, IA; seven grandchildren: Mike (Erin), Mark, Casey (fiancée Catherine), Scott (Kerry) Jacobsen, Troy Lewiston, Jessica Lewiston and Ben Miller; great-grandchildren: Carter Jacobsen, and Aliya and Karter Heit.

Floris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leonard in 1993; five brothers: Orla Jr, Don, Merlin, Ray, and Jack; and one sister Maxine.

Memorials may be made to the Sac City Public Library for large print books.
