Elaine Kay Johnson, age 76, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, at her home in Sac City. Elaine was born on August 11, 1939, to Gerhard and Grace (Poen) Spanjer in Sac City. Elaine was baptized in 1939 at the Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton, IA. She grew up on a farm and attended rural country school near Lake View and graduated from Lake View High School in 1957.
On March 8, 1959, Elaine and Roger Johnson were united in marriage at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton. This union was blessed with three daughters: Lori, Jill, and Jana. They lived on a farm south of Sac City. Elaine helped Roger with the farming and was a wonderful homemaker, caring for her family and attending all their activities in school kept her very busy. After Roger passed away in 1985, Elaine’s loyalty and devotion to him never waivered. She worked for many years as a cashier at the grocery store in Sac City and Storm Lake after his passing.
Family was always Elaine’s first priority. She was very close to her daughter’s and grandchildren and could always be seen with them at any of their activities, including horse shows. Elaine was a member of multiple card clubs, enjoyed bowling and bowling league, working on craft projects, watching Iowa/ISU athletics, cooking and loved her Dr. Pepper. Watching her grandchildren and being with her family brought her great joy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to mourn her passing include her daughters: Lori VanAhn of Sac City, Jill (Perry) Johnson of Auburn, and Jana (Bernell) Edwards of West Des Moines; grandchildren: Heather (Chad) Wuebker of Jefferson, Haley Winker of Rockwell City, Blake and Braeden Edwards of West Des Moines; and great-grandchildren: Wade and Brock Wuebker of Jefferson. Other survivors include her sisters: Janice Myott of Spencer and Joanne (Tony) Dusatko of Omaha; brother Gerald (Nancy) Spanjer of Lake View; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roger Johnson; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law.
