Anna Jean Lake, age 87, of Sac City, IA, passed away on May 31, 2016, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Anna Jean was born on January 25, 1929, to parents Roy and Alverta Houdeshell in Varina, IA. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. Anna Jean attended grade school in Varina and graduated Varina High School. She then attended Buena Vista University and received her secretarial certificate.
On February 20, 1947, Anna Jean was united in marriage to William J. Lake. To this union three children were born: Mary Louise, Mark William, and William John Jr. Anna Jean was the secretary for the City Clerk’s Office in Sac City for many years.
Throughout her life she was involved in many community activities. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Sac City serving as Deacon, Elder and helping with Youth Club. Anna Jean was also active in the Wa Tan Ye Club, the VFW Auxilliary and founding volunteer with the Sac City Museum. Anna Jean enjoyed crocheting, crafting, knitting, reading, playing cards and the breakfast club. She also liked bird watching, flowers and butterflies. Anna Jean was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, who will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Anna Jean is survived by her sons: Rev. Mark (Beverly) Lake of Tucumcari, NM and William John Jr. (Susan) Lake of Independence, IA; grandchildren: Chad, Molly, Joshua, Nick, Joe, James and Abigail; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Mary Louise Johnson; and sisters: Vera, Marie, Eva, Genevieve and Darlene.
