Jeryl Reiter, age 92, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA. Jeryl was born on February 2, 1924, in Breda, IA, to Jesse and Gertie (Freese) Reiter. He attended school through the 11th grade in Wall Lake. Following graduation Jeryl was inducted into the United States Navy serving from 1944 through 1946 earning the rank of 2nd Petty Officer.
On July 19, 1947, Jeryl was united in marriage to Eva Roth at the Methodist Church in Wall Lake. They were blessed with two daughters: Julie and Joleen.
Jeryl and his brothers Harvey and Kermit owned and operated Reiter Feed which their father, Jess, had established in Wall Lake and later purchased the elevator in Lake View. He worked for many years before retiring and selling the business in 1998. Jeryl was very involved within the community and was the fire chief for Wall Lake from 1954 through 1969 and a 70 year member of the American Legion Wall Lake Chapter. He was also a member of the city council in Wall Lake from 1972 through 1979, a part of the administrative council at the United Methodist Church in Wall Lake, and a founding board member of Spring Lake Golf Club.
In his free time, Jeryl enjoyed golfing, woodworking, gardening, and hunting. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his daughters: Julie and husband Denny Dozark of Vail, IA and Joleen Reiter of Decorah, IA; grandchildren: Jason Dozark and wife Allison of Mequon, WI, Rachel and husband Jon Judisch of Lake City, IA, Megan and husband Eric Hess of Pittsboro, NC and Nick Stayskal and wife Johanna of Decorah, IA; great-grandchildren: Chloe and Cole Judisch of Lake City, IA and Eli Hess of Pittsboro, NC; Other survivors include his sisters-in-law Margaret Reiter of Wall Lake, IA and Donna Reiter of Wall Lake, IA; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Jeryl was preceded in death by his wife Eva; parents Jess and Gertie Reiter; brothers: Harvey and Kermit Reiter; and sister Anna Belle Leitz.
