Shirley Dee Quealy, age 87, of Sac City, IA, formerly of Fort Dodge, IA, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Shirley was born on June 10, 1928, to Melvin Anderson and Jeanette Schoon Anderson in Fort Dodge, IA. She grew up in Fort Dodge where she graduated from high school in 1946, she completed her RN degree graduating from Mercy Nursing School in Fort Dodge in 1950.
On October 4, 1952, Shirley married the love of her life, Robert S. Quealy. They were blessed with four children: Liz, Tom, Matt, and Ann. Shirley worked as an RN at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa Lutheran and Trinity Hospital in Fort Dodge. She retired from nursing in 1980.
Shirley was a wonderful wife and mother who cared for her family and others. She was especially proud that her four children had college educations. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Dodge, member of the women’s circle, served on the Administration Board and as an usher. She enjoyed volunteering at church for the Clothes Closet Donation Center, assisted with vacation Bible School, and attended Bible studies.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include her children: Liz (Russ) Davis of Nemaha, IA,Tom (Nancy) Quealy of Hanover, MN, Matt Quealy of Nemaha, IA, and Ann (Jim) Dunleavy of Glen Rock, NJ; grandchildren: Melissa (Bobby) Dahm of Fairfax, IA, Jen (Matt) Haden of Centerville, IA, Steve Quealy of Green Bay, WI, and Caroline (David) Draper of Junction City, KS; great-grandchildren: Lainey Haden and Wesley and Owen Draper. Other survivors include her sister-in-law Betty Kelleher of Fort Dodge; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Quealy; parents Melvin and Jeanette Anderson; and sister Beverly Johanson.
