Joann Lois (Henrichs) Reiter from Wall Lake, IA was born on August 2, 1928, in Butler County (Allison) Iowa to Henry G. and Claretta (Folken) Henrichs. She passed away at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, IA on February 5, 2016. She was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Allison.
Joann attended various Butler County country schools until 8th grade, completing and graduating from Allison High School in 1946. Following graduation she worked at the Butler County Extension office and Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Waverly, IA.
On June 26, 1948 Joann was united in marriage to Gordon R. (Dick) Reiter in Allison, IA.
They lived in Allison until 1952 when they moved to a farm south of Herring. In the fall of 1960 the family moved into Wall Lake. Joann was employed at the Wall Lake Blade, the Lake View Resort as typesetter/photographer beginning in 1967. Then she worked for the Wall Lake Blade which later became the Chronicle with five years as editor.
Joann was a member of Lakes United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, eventually returning to become member of Wheatland Presbyterian Church near Breda. Dick and Joann were Charter members of Wall Lake Lions since 1988 serving as club presidents for a year.
Hobbies include typing, writing, reading, photography, visiting the kids and grandkids. She also enjoyed knitting dish cloths of many colors for family and friends. She will be remembered most for doing her much loved crosswords each day in ink. Joann was diagnosed with Alzheimers and was cared for at home by her husband till June 2006 when she entered Twilight Acres in Wall Lake and presided there until her death.
Joann is survived by her two sons: Mark and his wife Deb of Monticello, MN and Joel of Des Moines, IA; her daughter Jayne and her husband Gaylen Jepsen of Denison; and son-in-law Mark Wilson of Lake View. Survivors also include three grandsons, James Wilson and friend Ashley Tiller of Denver, CO, Jeremy Jepsen and Kyle Jepsen of Denison, IA, two granddaughters, Angela and her husband Chad Satre of Maple Grove, MN, and Jessica Wilson of Lake View; three great-grandchildren Sam and Sophie Satre and Brycelyn Paquette all from Maple Grove; sisters Luonna Folkers of Humboldt, IA, and Norma Klingbeil and her husband Jerry of Allison, IA; brother-in-law Robert Reiter and his wife Becky of Bettendorf, IA; sister-in-law Joanie Reiter of Wall Lake, IA; and many extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dick on November 11, 2015 and daughter Karen Wilson in 1993, her parents, her brother and his wife, Warren and Gail Henrichs, and brother-in-law Gene Folkers.
