Darrell L. Boisen, age 65, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Fonda Specialty Care in Fonda, IA.  Darrell was born on October 30, 1950, to Luvern (Hank) and Iva (O’Tool) Boisen at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA.  Darrell and his family moved a lot when he was younger, and in 1969, he graduated from West Bend Community High School.  He continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College, graduating in 1975.  He then went on to Mankato State where he received his bachelor’s degree with majors in English, psychology, and philosophy.   Darrell served his country by joining the US Navy in October 1969 and served as quartermaster in charge of steering the USS Chowanoc ATF 100 and earning the rank of QM3, E-4. He was honorably discharged in August 1973.

Darrell made his home in Sac City where he worked at varied job training centers as a job developer and job coach.  He worked at the Howard Center for many years, helping those with disabilities look for jobs and assisted them with that job.  Darrell was a believer in supporting the earth, and was apart of the Sierra Club, which worked to preserve and protect the planet.  One of Darrell's favorite passions was botany, always nursing an injured plant back to life and starting new ones. He was also a financial supporter of the Shriners Club and supported Veterans causes, especially those during the Vietnam era.  Darrell was also a 26 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous with volunteering in corrections 12 step work. In his free time, Darrell loved to read, collect “Royal Copely” antique pottery and enjoyed  photography.  He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his mother Iva Boisen of Sac City, IA; brother Dwight (Deb) Boisen of Mason City, IA; niece Robin Boisen (Jim) of Des Moines, IA; nephews: Jared Boisen of Oskaloosa, IA, Scott (Kate) Boisen of Mt. “For some inexplicable reason I thought of Darrell today and looked him up. I'm shocked to read of his passing and I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family. I was sworn into the Navy standing next to Darrell in October 1969. We went through boot camp in San Diego together, as well as a Navy school in Newport, RI AND side by side on the USS Chowanoc as I was also a quartermaster. Darrell was a good natured man, I remember him being a cheerful fellow and I can still remember his laugh and his sense of humor. As a side note, I see I appeared in one of the photo's taken in the Philippines with Darrell and a few other shipmates (and some young ladies). This is a beautiful tribute to Darrell. My heartfelt sympathies to you.”

“It is with a very heavy heart that I found out about Darrell, just today. Darrell was a friend and just a very good man. He taught me a lot about patience and 'let go and let God'.
There is a mark left on every life he touched. He will be missed.”

“I'm very sorry about the loss of your loved one. I wanted to share the scriptural hope that has given me so much comfort. I hope it will help you also. The Bible shows that God did not intend for humans to suffer, grow old and die. (Romans 5:12). It also calls death an enemy. (1 Corinthians 15:26). God promises to remove death forever. (Isaiah 25:8). He also promises to soon restore the earth and humans to his original purpose for them. Then he will resurrect our loved ones onto a cleansed, paradise earth where we can welcome them back. (John 5:28,29; Psalm 37:10,11,29).
