Ceola “Sue” Ann Woehl, age 88, of Sac City, IA, passed away at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, on Sunday, December 6, 2015.
Sue was born on April 29, 1927, in Carroll County, IA, to parents Frank and Celia (Drees) Kraus. Sue grew up in Early, IA and attended grade school and high school there. She then furthered her education at St. Joseph’s Mercy School of Nursing in Fort Dodge, graduating in 1948 and became an RN.
On November 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Harlin Eugene Woehl at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, IA. They were blessed with three daughters: Nici, Karyn, and Barbara. She and her family made their home in Sac City. Sue worked at Loring Hospital as an RN in Sac City for many years, and retired in 1982. She enjoyed getting together with the other retirees of Loring Hospital on a routine basis.
Sue and Harlin enjoyed traveling. They traveled to Europe several times and visited many states in the U.S. They also spent their winters in Florida. She enjoyed playing bridge and card games. She was a long time member of the Lytton Legion Auxiliary and the neighborhood HYN club, (Help Your Neighbor). Her faith was very important to her and she was a long time member of the Guild, DCCW and Senior Gals within the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She also was a poll worker for many years and only recently stopped spending election days at the polls. Sue was a devoted mother and grandmother, who loved her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Nici (Ed) Johnston of Ankeny, IA, Karyn (Larry) Kreckow of Redwood Falls, MN, Barbara McManus (Bill Letuli) of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchild: Emily (Aaron) Smith of Omaha, NE; step-grandchildren: Chris Johnston of Los Angeles, Kenny (Jennifer) Johnston of Western Springs, IL; step-great-grandchildren: Miles and Nathan Johnston of Western Springs, IL; sisters-in-law: Ila Mae Kraus of Pocahontas, IA, Penny Kraus of Elkhart, IN, and Janice Woehl of Sac City, IA; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harlin in 2011; four brothers: Richard, Walbert, Reinold (Ray), Celestine; and sister Glyceria Ellis.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, December 10th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City, IA with Father John McGuirk officiating. Family burial will be at the Cedar Cemetery in Lytton, under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Sue requests casual dress.
Visitation is from 9:30 am, Thursday, December 10th at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City, Iowa.
