Dorothy Majel (Mason) Ehler, age 92, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Dorothy was born on February 26, 1923, to Elmer and Clara (Baxter) Mason near Early, IA. She grew up on the farm, with her three brothers, near Early. She received her education in the Early school system graduating in 1941.
On September 6, 1946, Dorothy married the love of her life, Geg (Harry G.) Ehler at the Port Chapel, Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver, CO. They made their home west of Sac City where Geg farmed for many years. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage and welcomed two children: a daughter Kimberly and son Lynn. Dorothy was a wonderful homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Her hobbies included playing the piano, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and playing cards. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City, served as President of the United Methodist Women, Sunday School Superintendent, and as an active member of the United Methodist Women and her UMW Circle.
Dorothy was an accomplished pianist. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, Dorothy played piano for large, small, and solo choral groups at Sac Community High School. Additionally she was the pianist for musical productions performed by the Sac City Fine Arts Association. Throughout her life, she and Geg enjoyed traveling, and they attended every significant event in which their children and grandchildren participated, no matter the distance. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughter Kim (Ehler) Johnson and husband Tom of Henderson, NV; six grandchildren: Kelly Burton and husband Travis, Henderson, NV; Kari Besancon and husband John, Henderson, NV; Grace Kraaijvanger and husband Arnaud, Mill Valley, CA; Emily Ehler, San Antonio, TX; Maggie Ehler, Los Angeles, CA; Abby Hagen and husband Kristofer, Minnetonka, MN; seven great-grandchildren: Taylor and Tabitha Burton; Owen and Megan Besancon; Miles Ehler; and Jane and Ben Kraaijvanger; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Geg on February 12, 2011; son Lynn and daughter-in-law Sarah Ehler; and her brothers Bob, Don, and Lee Mason.
