Raymond Joseph Duffy, age 90, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. He was born March 13, 1925, in Williams Township in Calhoun County to parents Frank and Mayme (Walsh) Duffy.
Ray attended school in Sac City and was a brave hero who left high school his junior year, 1943 and joined the Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1946. After returning back from World War II, Ray finished high school in Des Moines, IA.
On May 21, 1955, Ray was united in marriage to Donita Kruskop in Sac City. This union was blessed with two children: Terry and Diane. The family then made their home in Sac City, where Ray and his brother Francis ran their business, Duffy’s Produce for 23 years. Later, he worked at the Sac City Hatchery and Feed Store and then finished his employment years as custodian at the Sac School.
Ray was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He loved gardening, golfing, boating and fishing, watching Iowa Hawkeye sports, and his trips to Florida. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Donita Duffy of Sac City, IA; children: Terry (Jackie) Duffy of Sac City, IA, Diane Duffy of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Carl (Janelle) Duffy of Adel, IA, Carrie (Josh) Kephart of Early, IA; great-grandchildren: Cade and Kennedy Duffy, Cael and Eli Kephart; sister Grace Green of Sac City, IA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Patrick Duffy, brother Francis Duffy, and sisters Angela O’Conner and Marie Hamm.
