Blenna Jean Blessington, age 85, of Lake View, IA, passed away at Blackhawk Life Care Center in Lake View on Sunday, August 23, 2015. Blenna was born on November 6, 1929, to parents Ted and Clara (Stanzel) Barr in Wall Lake, IA. Blenna attended grade school and high school in Wall Lake.
On May 17, 1947, Blenna was united in marriage to Lloyd Blessington in Sac County, IA. The couple enjoyed watching and participating in stockcar races together. This union was later blessed with nine children: Kathy, Cheryl, Bob, Wanda, Dennis, Marsha, Gerry, Kent, and Sandy.
Over the years, Blenna worked as a waitress at the Carlson House and at Lakewood, she was a clerk at Bob’s Market and then worked as an aid for home care. Blenna later retired in 1992. In her spare time she was a den mother for the cub scouts, a member of the Methodist Church in Lake View and enjoyed gardening, going to garage sales, and reading. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan. Blenna loved spending time with her family and watching her children and grandchildren in their activities. She also loved driving around the lake with her dog Billie. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children: Kathy (Mike) Rodman of Hartford, IA, Cheryl (Dennis) Dunkin of Grundy Center, IA, Bob Blessington of Lake View, IA, Wanda (John) Gibson of Waukee, IA, Dennis (Lori) Blessington of Lake View, IA, Marsha Blessington of Vinton, IA, Gerry (Kay) Blessington of Auburn, IA, Kent (Eileen) Blessington of Auburn, IA, Sandy (Ted) Marzorati of Columbus, NE ; grandchildren: Jeff, Sean, Craig, Curtis, Collin, Bobby, Gina, Lisa, Shanon, Brad, Helga, Jennifer, Patty, Teresa, Kasie, Jens, Mindy, Shelly, Tery, Michelle, Melissa, John, Mark, Calvin, Eric, Samantha, Theo; 46 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Arnold (Ethel) Blessington of Lake View, IA; sisters-in-law: Margaret Teague of Auburn, IA, Dorothy O’Tool of Odebolt, IA, Dee Blessington of Lake View, IA, Marie Blessington of Lake View, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
Blenna was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Clara Barr; husband Lloyd Blessington, sister Beoma and a brother in infancy; also her grandson’s Tony, Brent, and Dan.
