Loren “Swede” Charles Richards, age 82, of Sac City, IA, passed away at his home on July 23, 2015. Swede was born November 22, 1932, at home in rural Sac City to Ronald and Eva (Spicer) Richards. He attended school in Sac City for 11 years. He was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Wahoo, NE in 1955.
In November 1951, Swede joined the Air Force, and served his country proudly, having served one year in French Morocco in communications, until his discharge in November 1955.
On August 1, 1954, Swede was united in marriage to Bonnie I. Auen at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Carnarvon, IA. Swede and Bonnie were blessed with three children: Daniel, Lynae and Laurie.
In 1970, after having worked for Les Zeman, Sac City Radio & Electric and Central TV, Swede opened his own business in Sac City, “Richards Zenith Service” was first located on 13th & Early, then moving to 1715 W. Main. He retired in 2003 after serving Sac City and the surrounding communities for 30 plus years.
Proud of his military service, Swede was a life long member of the local VFW. He also enjoyed his children and grandchildren and family get-togethers. He enjoyed the outdoors, never turned down a ride on a motorcycle, and loved to ride around the lake, usually enjoying his favorite treat, ice cream.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be remembered for his smile, friendliness and love of family.
Loren “Swede” Richards is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his three children: Daniel L. of Sac City, IA, Lynae D. (Eugene) M.D. Tesdall of Sac City, IA, and Laurie J. (James) Gross of New Brighton, MN; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Heath) Halberg, Devin Richards, Alissa (Jeremiah) McMillen, Emilee (Andrew) Belger, Ilaina (Shawn) McMillen, Orin McMillen, Ugene Dickey, Ylyndee Dickey, Ameiyra Tesdall, Ryan Gross, Connor Gross and Kyra Gross; great-grandchildren: Shane Zellmer, Kaylee Gergis, Jacob Gergis, Aubree Belger, Graham Belger and Nathan Giberson; sister Myrna (Rich) Henrich of Kiron, IA; sisters-in-law: Peggy (Dick) Mace of Sioux City IA, Lu Auen of Glidden, IA, and Elise (Joe) Pick of Carroll, IA; brother-in-law Bob Carnine of Odebolt; and many extended relatives.
Preceding him in death are his parents Ronald and Eva Richards; parents-in-law Henry and Evelyn Auen; sister Beverly Carnine; sister-in-law Dorothy (Samir) Gergis; brother-in-law Kenneth Auen and many aunts, uncles.
