Pauline Gertrude Rardin, age 83, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. Pauline was born on January 25, 1931, to Frederick and Alice (Ammann) Steinblock. She attended school in Lake View and at age 10 when she came down with polio, she went to Des Moines Mercy Hospital. She stayed there for one year and came home healthy. Pauline was a Rainbow Girl along with Ruth Flink.
Pauline worked hard all her life. At Cunningham’s Café she was a waitress, ran errands for Blackie, owner of the Blacksmith Shop, and helped her Dad with dray work.
Pauline met Albert Rardin at the Lake View Dump. She caught his eye. They dated for a couple years, and were married in Harrison, Arkansas on May 31, 1952. To this union six children were born: Dolly Ann who died shortly after birth, Cindy, Mindy, Brenda, Timothy, Bonny, and adopted son Dusty. They came home to live in Carroll and ran a mail route then moved back to Lake View.
Pauline was a woman of many trades and being a housewife was number one. Caring for her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brought her great joy. She loved to help people and talk to her birds. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View.
Survivors include her children: Cindy (Ray) Scott of Troy, TX, Mindy (Steve) Radloff of Wall Lake, IA, Tim (Cathy) Rardin of Lake View, Bonny (Dale) Kennebeck of Carroll, IA Dennis Carroll of Salina, KS, and Dusty Rardin of Lake View; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; extended family members and many friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Alice Steinblock; husband Albert Rardin; infant daughter Dolly Rardin; daughter Brenda Rardin; and infant brother Johney Steinblock.
