Donald (DW) Smith was born in Roswell, SD, on August 3, 1928, to his loving parents, Frank and Emma (Bushman) Smith.  Donald attended grade school in Early, IA and also graduated from Early high school.

On June 19, 1948, DW was united in marriage to Verval Koehler at the Lutheran Church in Odebolt, IA.   This union was blessed with two daughters: Becky and Stacy.

DW worked hard to provide for his family.  He was a lineman/foreman for West Side Salvage in Atkins, IA and retired in 2010.  No matter what he was doing, he always made time for his family, Sunday dinners at Amy’s and spending time with Brad in his garage. He loved telling stories and hanging out with his West Side family.  DW had a love for collecting John Deere antique tractors and restoring them.  His favorite thing was to go watch his grand-daughter play sports and seeing everyone at the games.  He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his daughters: Becky Lynch of Sac City, IA, and Stacy Smith of Atkins, IA; brother Alfred Smith of Lincoln, MO; sister Irene Harris of Raymore, MO; grandchildren: Amy (Brad) Blum of Sac City, IA and Chad (Deb) Lynch of Sac City, IA; great-grandchildren: Shae and Oliva Blum of Sac City, IA; Jordan and Morgan Lynch of Fonda, IA; Vanessa Ross of Sac City, IA; Levi and Dakota Blum of Lake View, IA; and other extended family members.

Donald passed away on February 24, 2015, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA.  Donald was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Emma Smith; his wife Verval Smith; and brothers: Dewane and Bob Smith.
