Dorothy Rosina Jarvis, age 95, of Sac City, IA, passed away at Loring Hospital in Sac City on Thursday, January 22, 2015.  Dorothy was born on May 7, 1919, in Odebolt, IA, to Henry and Ruth (Andrews) Weitzel.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church.  Her parents lived near Storm Lake and Dorothy attended Hayes Township School in Buena Vista County.

On February 28, 1941, Dorothy was united in marriage to Raymond Jarvis in Wayne, NE.  Raymond was a farmer and Dorothy enjoyed being a farmers wife, helping in any way she could and caring for their daughters, Donna and Peggy.  Raymond passed away in 1972, and Dorothy moved into Sac City to her own home.  She worked at Fister Department Store, the Bowling Alley and at the Gun Club.

Dorothy had a very active life and loved visiting with people.  She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, going bowling, attending Polka Dances, and fishing.  As a member of the First Christian Church in Sac City, she loved her church family and participating in church activities.  In later years she helped with Bingo at the nursing home.  She was able to live in her own home for 43 years.  Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Attending her daughters activities and later attending her grandchildren’s activities brought her so much joy.  She adored her family and appreciated all they did for her.  She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughters: Donna Mason and husband Doug of Holstein, IA; and Peggy Schaefer and husband Dick of Sac City; grandchildren: Jodi Schaefer Murphy and husband Tom of Ankeny, IA; Jeff Mason of Holstein, IA; Scott Mason and wife Mary of Sioux City, IA; Brenda Mason Schnell and husband Randy of Waukee, IA; and Lindsay Schaefer Peters and husband Josh of Aplington, IA; great-grandchildren: Morganne and Abby Murphy; Kennedy, Ethan, and Gabi Mason; Chase, Hunter, and Hailey Von Drake; Elin, Elle and Brenden Schnell; and Brady, Nathan, and Austen Peters.  Other survivors include her sister Elaine Goodman and husband Charles of Alta; sister-in-law Daisy Young of Sac City; and many extended family members.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth Weitzel; husband Raymond; sisters: Margaret, Marie and Doris; and brother Melvin Weitzel.

“I just read of Dorothy's passing, several years late. I wonder if I can contact Donna or Peggy this way. We were childhood friends. Donna, maybe you remember we went to the prom together. I think you were a junior then. Our parents were friends and we sometimes had summer vacation together. I remember playing in the haymow on your farm when we were kids! Would love to hear from you.”
