Howard Paul McCorkle, age 99, of Sac City, IA, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Carroll Health Center in Carroll, IA. Howard Paul McCorkle, age 99, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Carroll Health Center in Carroll, Iowa. Paul was born on October 28, 1909, in Madison County, Iowa near De Soto, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Ada (Easter) McCorkle. He attended grade school at Hudson and De Soto, graduated from De Soto High School in 1927, and Iowa State College in 1933. On October 12, 1933, Paul was united in marriage to Vivian Olson in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home in Sac City. This union was blessed with two children, Shirley and Jack.
Paul McCorkle Construction Company was well known in Sac City and the surrounding area for building quality commercial and industrial buildings. He served as President of the Master Builders of Iowa and on the Board of Trustees at Buena Vista University where he received an Honorary Doctorate of Science Degree. Both Vivian and Paul were dedicated to the university and will be remembered for their great works at Buena Vista, promoting education and the well being of the institution. Paul touched a lot of lives and gave so much to the community, especially for his work with Kids World. Paul and Vivian enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to have visited all parts of the world. He enjoyed woodworking and ceramics. Paul was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City, where he served as a Trustee.
Survivors include his daughter Shirley Bartlett of Dallas, Texas; son Jack McCorkle and daughter-in-law Claudia of Redington Beach, Florida; five grandchildren: Steve Bartlett and wife Susan, Anne Motsenbocker and husband Alan, Jeff McCorkle, Betty McCorkle, and Mike McCorkle and wife JoAnn; four great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Vivian on June 22, 2002.
