She married Kenneth Hobbs on March 4, 1949, in Sioux City, IA, and they made their home in Sac City, IA. They welcomed 3 children into their lives: Catherine, Craig, and Mary Chris. Learning and sharing new experiences was an important focus of Hobbs family life. Marilyn had many interests outside the home. She worked at George Shull accounting for many years and served as Executive Director for the Sac City Chamber of Commerce from May 1972-June 1987. She was long time secretary for the Sac County Development Corporation, was a judge for the Iowa Community Betterment program, and was a member of the 520 First Association and the Ambassadors Club.

Marilyn believed in a life of service. She was involved in many service organizations including United Methodist Women serving as president of Circle 2, Loring Hospital Auxiliary, Friends of the Museum, and Friends of the Library. She also served as National President of Wa Tan Ye.

Marilyn also made time for hobbies. She especially treasured her bridge group and the social life that went with it. She loved her two cats and liked to watch the birds, deer, raccoons and other wildlife that came up to the house. She had a life-long passion for reading and learning. In her spare time she enjoyed wood craft painting; which was a hobby she shared with Kenny. She also relaxed with jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and counted cross stitch. She will be truly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
