Ronald Roy Bentsen

Ronald Roy Bentsen, age 77, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Ronald was born on September 24, 1937, in his farm home near Newcastle, NE, to Albert John Bentsen and Hazel Marie Birkley Bentsen, the third child of three. He was baptized in the Faith Lutheran Church of Maskell, NE and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Sac City.

He attended Sac City public school graduating in May of 1955. He then worked two years for Otto Engineering as a surveyor. Ronald married Marlene Ann Ehrhardt on August 24, 1957. In March of 1958 they moved to a farm east of Odebolt where he farmed for 40 years. To this marriage were born three children, Randal John, Kathleen Ann and Kenneth Albert.

He served on the Odebolt-Arthur School Board, Sac County Conservation Board, and as Church Treasurer, Trustee and Elder. They moved to Sac City in February of 1998, continuing to help his son Kenneth farm. His grandchildren held a large part of his heart. He loved to hunt, trap, fish and follow sports activities.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; three children: Randal (Karen) Bentsen of Atlantic, IA, Kathy (Paul) Carlson of Raymore, MO, and Kenneth (Joni) Bentsen of Sac City, IA; eight grandchildren: Audra (DeWet) Jooste of Sioux Falls, SD, John (Laura) Bentsen of Southern Pines, NC, Haven Carlson of Ames, IA, Eric Carlson of Rolla, MO, Ryan Carlson of Raymore, MO, Joseph Bentsen of Spirit Lake, IA, Alena (Adam) Naberhaus, Sac City, IA and Kalyn (Lucas) Johnson of Sac City, IA; great-grandchildren: Kullen and Olivia Jooste, Vivian Bentsen, and Kellan Johnson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Bob Carstensen of Brooklyn Park, MN; many extended family members and friends.
