Larry Carl Faust, age 73, of Sioux Center, IA, formerly of Wall Lake, IA, passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 1, 2012. Larry was born on June 11, 1939, on the family farm near Hubbard, IA, to Meryl and Louise (Engelking) Faust. He graduated from Hubbard High School in 1957 and attended Ellsworth Junior College for a year before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp in 1958. He served with the 2nd Battalion and was honorably discharged in 1961. In the fall following his discharge, Larry continued his education at Wayne State College, graduating in 1964 with a BA in Education. During his college years, he met Dorothy Park. They were married August 9, 1964, at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, NE. He taught and coached in Armstrong, IA for several years.

Larry continued his education at N.W. Missouri State in Maryville, MO receiving his Master’s Degree in Education in 1970. Larry was offered a job as Principal in the Wall Lake School system where he remained until retiring in 1997. He was very active in sports, serving as Athletic Director and coaching golf and American Legion Baseball for many years. He refereed basketball, volleyball and football games and umpired softball and baseball games. He was inducted into the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association softball umpire Hall of Fame in 1993. After 27 years in Wall Lake, Larry and Dorothy moved to Spirit Lake, IA. Then in 2012 they moved to their present home in Sioux Center, IA.

One of Larry’s greatest passions was fishing. He started as a young boy and continued doing so as late as two weeks before his passing. His other great love was baseball. He was an avid Cubs fan.
