Marvyl Leonard

Marvyl Leona Leonard, age 82, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. Marvyl was born on March 3, 1932, to Peter and Anna Lillian (Peters) Buse in the kitchen of the family farm in Lake View, and was put on the oven door to keep warm. On March 30, 1932, she was baptized by Reverend Wiese at his home in the Lutheran Faith.

Marvyl was raised on the farm and grew to love the work responsibilities as a farmer. She was up every morning ready to work. As a child, Marvyl loved animals and had many pets, including a lamb, rooster, and a dog. She had a love for music and took music lessons from Mrs. Peck. At the end of a year, Mrs. Peck discontinued giving lessons so they had a music recital and Marvyl played three songs on the piano. She then began taking music lessons from Mrs. Hester Buihner and had several duets with her sister LaVola. Marvyl attended grade school at the county school that was a half a mile from her house and then attended high school in Lake View. While taking algebra, she decided she would like to major in mathematics and would like to teach. On September 24, 1950, Marvyl was united in married to Richard Leonard. This union was blessed with two sons and a daughter. She raised her family on the same family farm she was born and raised in.

Marvyl was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and was a member of the Merry Meeters Club. Some of her favorite memories were made spending time with her family and friends, and helping on the farm and in the fields. Marvyl lived on the family farm her whole life until moving to Twilight Acres.

Survivors include her sons: Jeffery Leonard and fiance Denise Snook of Lake View, IA and Garry (Michelle Monahan) Leonard of Lake View, IA; daugher Jeanette (Robert) Miller of Parker, SD; grandchildren: Renee (Dan) Huisenga of Auburn, IA; Seith (Erin) Monahan of Urbandal, IA; Samual (Nicole) Monahan of Lake View, IA; Ethan and Breonnah Miller of Parker, SD; and eight step great-grandchildren.
