Kathleen Miller was born on November 7, 1933, in Lake City, Iowa, to John and Margaret (Hubbert) Fowler. She passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Kathleen wrote the story of her life herself, and it is shared here largely in her own words.
She received her schooling in several locations throughout Iowa before graduating from Sac City High School. She continued her education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.
She was married to George A. Miller, living first in Early, Iowa, then moving to the Fowler Century Farm in 1958. They were parents to Janet, Laurie, and Kerry.
When her children were all in school, she returned to the workforce, working at the nursing home, Lytton Creamery Office, and Medical Associates, retiring as Clinic Manager after 20 years. While there, she served on the board of the Medical Associate Program at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
Later she worked part-time at First Presbyterian Church in Sac City as secretary, retiring after 10 years. She served two terms as an Elder and one term as a Deacon, as well as secretary of the Board of Deacons. During her time there, she also served as secretary of Presbyterian Women for several years.
After her husband's death in 2002, she became a hospice volunteer for many years, serving on the Loving Family Hospice Board.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of almost 50 years, George; her sister, Marilyn; her brothers, Keith and John, both Marines, who lost their lives in the service of their country; her dear aunts, Margaret and Vera; her brothers-in-law, Harold Miller, John Miller, and David Perry; her sister-in-law, Sally Miller; and her son-in-law, Wendell Wiersma.
She is survived by her children, Janet Wiersma, Laurie (David) Bihrer, and Kerry Nelson; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Wright, Jacqueline (Donovan) Hayslett, and Justine (Jared) Hayslett; her great-grandchildren, Emmeline Wright, Jhett Anderson, Jordhi Anderson, and Austin Wright; her sister, Margaret Perry; her sisters-in-law, Freda (Les) Stehr and Lonna Miller; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She spent lots of time enjoying her children and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were very special to her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gentiva Hospice.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice and their caregivers for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Kathleen.
