Evelyn Joy Mesenbrink

Evelyn Joy Mesenbrink, age 83, of Sac City, IA, formerly of Lake View, IA, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Evelyn was born on June 3, 1930, at Lake View, IA, to Otto and Lena (Buse) Peters. She was baptized June 5, 1930 at home and was confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Lake View. She graduated from Lake View High School in 1947.

On June 11, 1950, Evelyn was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald H. Mesenbrink, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. They were blessed with five children: Shirley, Jeffery, Linda, Kathy, and Jodi. Evelyn and Don worked together on the farm for 27 years, milking cows and raising quarter horses in Lake View. They moved to Sac City and she was employed at the Olympic Flame as a cook, Marjo’s Green House, and then lastly employed at Park View Care Center as a cook for 10 years. She retired in 1996 for health reasons.

She loved to sew, cook, play cards, host the annual pond parties, craft work, gardening, spending time with her many friends and family and was known as the “Horse Show Mom” to many. She enjoyed the Clay County Fair for many years. She loved spending time with her eight grandkids and many great-grand kids.

Survivors include her four daughters: Shirley (Larry) Kluver of Sac City; Linda (Lyle) Schuknecht of Lake View; Kathy (Jeff) Jacobson of Galva; Jodi (Korey) Conover, Holstein; eight grandchildren: Tabitha (Jamie) Lewis of Cushing, Aaron (Sarah) Jacobson of Schaller, Joshua (Sara) Jacobson of Galva, Kristen (Ben) Mather of Cedar Falls, Lisa Schuknecht of Sioux City, Chad Kluver of Spencer, Scott (Laurie) Kluver of Sac City and Ann Kluver of Sac City; and 14 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister Velma (Donald) Meyer of Lake View; sisters-in-law Betty Mesenbrink of Lake View, and Vernette Mesenbrink of the Holstein Nursing Home; brother-in-law Glen Mesenbrink of Schaller; many nieces; nephews; extended family members; special neighbors and friends Brad and Jean Werner; and many other friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
