IN LIEU OF FLOWERS please consider making a monetary donation to David's family to help with his final expenses.
David John Schultz was born on September 25, 1970, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA, to parents Elmer and Janet (Craft) Schultz. He was welcomed home by his siblings, Steven and Susan. David was baptized at Emanuel St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton, IA, and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City. He grew up on an acreage just north of Sac City and graduated from Sac City High School with the Class of 1989.
Growing up, David loved riding horses. He had a pony named Sparky that he adored and loved dressing up as the Lone Ranger when riding him; fancy saddle and all! David always enjoyed riding with the Sac County Saddle Club, participating in their Fun Days and trail rides. He always liked being outside doing things boys like to do. During high school, David worked as a farm hand for Glen Poen. Glen was always someone David looked up to and learned a lot from. He had a lot of fun in his Chevelle and later of course, his little red Pontiac Fiero and we musn’t forget the little Yugo, he had a blast in that thing!
After graduating high school, David continued to live in Sac County and worked for several people in the area doing odd jobs until he purchased his first semi. From then on, he was an owner/operator. David wasn’t just any truck driver though; he went above and beyond to literally deliver his best to all of his customers, many of which requested him personally for the job at hand. He had a dog that rode shotgun to keep him company whose name was Clint, of course after one of his favorite actors, Clint Eastwood. He was a hardworking man who continued to push through the long hours and missed family time in order to provide for the ones he loved.
David met Sarah at a mutual friend’s birthday party. It seemed they both had eyes for each other that night and a week later, Sarah introduced him to her family. David married Sarah Elizabeth Bogue on November 17, 2012, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View, IA. This union blessed him with 2 stepchildren, Sabrina and Connor, whom he loved as his own. Next would come twins, Joseph and Isaack, who were born on October 20, 2013, after what they expected to be a lengthy process of in vitro. David was ecstatic to have two brand new baby boys to love and raise. He was so good at teaching them things and always had them by his side. He taught them to respect their elders and to just be respectful in general. David liked watching old shows and of course John Wayne westerns; his boys watched them right alongside him. They looked up to him so much, to them he was their hero. He taught them so many life lessons in their ten years together. David and the boys would go tent camping out on his family’s acreage and had a lot of fun together there. Grandma Janet and Grandpa Elmer loved having all of them out to the farm. It brought them great joy to watch David and his boys enjoying the outdoors on the same land he grew up on. They also loved going fishing together and were always excited to ride in the semi with their dad.
David always looked forward to deer hunting season and was scouting out land and deer movement well before shotgun season arrived. He enjoyed his time outdoors doing this with his nephew Kyle and brother-in-law Rick. It was something he looked forward to teaching his boys as well.
David’s faith was important to him and he wanted his boys to grow up understanding the importance of knowing the Lord. He was a great man, husband, son, father, uncle and friend. Rest assured, our Savior now has David in His care and has all along. Words cannot convey the loss that is felt by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his parents, Elmer and Janet Schultz of Sac City, IA; wife Sarah Schultz of Wall Lake, IA; children Joseph and Isaack Schultz of Wall Lake, IA, Sabrina Koopman (Jack Benisvy) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Connor Morris of Lake View, IA; grandson Niko Benisvy; siblings Steven (Tammi) Schultz of Sac City, IA, and Susan (Steve) Shears of Macon, MO; parents-in-law Gary (Mary Jo) Bogue of Lake View, IA; brother-in-law Bill (Emily) Bogue of Lake View, IA; nieces and nephews Kyle Ellis, Ashley Ellis, Amanda Thies (fiancé Matt Hawkins), and Walter Bogue; uncle Reed (Joan) Craft of Waterloo, IA; aunts Evelyn Schultz of Hawkeye, IA, Olette Schultz of Fayette, IA, and Gloria Craft of Newton, IA; many other extended family members and friends.
David was preceded in death by his uncles, Kenneth (Marjorie) Schultz, Donald Schultz, and Ivan Craft; grandparents Herman and Dorothy Schultz and John and Muriel Craft.

“My heart goes out to you and the whole family! I have followed you from the very beginning of this whole horrible journey. I have come to your page hoping every night that I would click on there and find a happy post of you saying Dave is finally home and safe. I pray that you get answers of what has happened, I don't believe there was no foul play involved like I read in one of the articles, but I pray you get the rest of the answers. But for now you do you and grieve your husband, reach out to those loved ones there for you and don't worry about anyone but yourself and your babies. Lean on your family to also help with those two little guys and take the breaks you need for yourself it is not selfish but will in the end make you stronger for the boys. You need your time too self care! My continued prayers for you and your family!!!!”
