Marilyn Geery, age 68 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City. Marilyn Ann Rench was born on February 22, 1955, in Sac City to parents DeLoss and Melvina (Knox) Rench. Marilyn, along with her eight siblings, grew up and attended school in Sac City.
Marilyn married Douglas Geery in 1974 in Oskaloosa, IA. Doug passed away that same year in a tragic drowning accident. Marilyn and her two boys, Jim and Doug, stayed in Oskaloosa where she worked for Pella Windows until 1984, before moving back to Sac City. Marilyn then waitressed at the Indian Village in Sac City for several years.
Marilyn had the biggest heart. She loved her boys fiercely and made sure they knew that. She was always up for having a good time and was just fun to be around. She loved a good game of Yahtzee or Dice. She enjoyed bowling and for many years was a league bowler. Marilyn had her own motorcycle that she loved riding. She and her cousin/best friend Jeanie rode whenever they had the chance. She also enjoyed traveling across the country with Dee in his semi and would often times help out by sitting behind the wheel herself.
In 2006, Marilyn moved to Park View in Sac City due to health issues. Despite living in a nursing home for seventeen years, she had such a positive outlook on life. Her room was filled with pictures of all of her loved ones and having them visit brought her heart such great joy. She was so proud of her boys and loved her grandchildren immensely. Her family meant the world to her. Marilyn was someone that even if she hadn’t seen you in a while, could have a conversation as if it was just yesterday you last spoke. She loved her Park View family and they loved her right back. Over the years she grew very close to many staff members there. She was such a kind soul. Her genuine smile, positive attitude, and generous heart will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.
