Emma (Whalen) Babcock-Meyer, age 82, of Odebolt, IA, passed away from an extended illness, Alzheimer's, on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, IA. Emma Whalen was born on October 27, 1931, in Sac City, IA, to Bartley and Katherine (Bechler) Whalen. She graduated from Sac City High School in 1950. Emma was united in marriage to Austin Babcock on June 4, 1950, in Sac City. This union was blessed with five children: Rick, Becky, LuAnn, Cindy, and Marilyn.
Emma was a great mother and grandmother. She loved attending family events, gardening, sewing, knitting and making quilts for her grandchildren’s graduation gifts. She also worked as a cook at school. Austin passed away on August 14, 1971. Emma later married William Meyer, Jr. on October 5, 1996 in Odebolt, IA. He passed away February 16, 2013.
Emma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Odebolt where she served as a Deacon and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her children: Rick (Michelle) Babcock of Rochester, MN; Becky (Pat) Reis of Odebolt; LuAnn (Kirk) Marcum of Clarinda; Cindy (Steve) Schramm of Auburn; and Marilyn Babcock of Ankeny; step children: Jon (Sue) Meyer and Gena Hill of Pleasant Hill, IA; grandchildren: Toni (Mark) Cunnings, Travis (Becky) Reis, Brian (Brenda) Reis, Stacey (Brian) Eben, Joshua (Lissa) Schramm, Zachary (Brittany) Schramm, Kyle Marcum, Jill Marcum, and A. J. Babcock; step-grandchildren: Adam Meyer and Alana Hill; great-grandchildren: Clayton, Tyler, Emma, Brody, Skylar, and Deim Reis, Isaac and Noah Cunnings, Elizabeth, Andrew, and Abigail Eben, Jacob, Jaron, Jayden, Hayden and Hadleigh Schramm. Other survivors include her brother Merle Shannon of Sac City; many extended family members and friends.
