Dorothy Bogue, age 100 of Wall Lake, IA, formerly of Lake View, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022, surrounded by her family at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.
Dorothy Maurine Phillips was born on February 9, 1922, to parents Arthur and Bertha (McKenzie) Phillips at their home in Sac County, IA. She grew up on a farm north of Lake View and attended country school. Dorothy graduated in 1940 from Lake View High School.
On July 7, 1940, Dorothy married Walter Bogue. This union was blessed with four children Barbara, Ronald, Gary, and Robert. Together they raised their family in Lake View where she worked as a caregiver for many in the community. She was able to travel to many countries with Velma O’Brien, a dear friend whom she also cared for. They traveled to Europe, Italy, France, and Spain just to name a few.
Dorothy’s strong faith in the Lord was evident. She was a sweet lady with an amazing smile who touched many throughout her life. She was a life-long member of Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View and Order of the Eastern Star for many years.
Dorothy was known to many as The Pie Lady simply because she made the best pies around. She made thousands over years. She was a pie extraordinaire for sure but she loved baking in general. Dorothy enjoyed trying her luck at casinos and playing games with her family. She adored any and all time spent with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids and was fortunate enough to see three great-great grandkids come into the world. She was so proud of all of them.
Dorothy always looked forward to having coffee with her friends. Those friends as well as all of her family will miss her dearly. Rest assured she has entered through the gates of Heaven where she will live eternally in Jesus’ loving arms.
Survivors include her children: Barb Reiling of Lake View, IA; Ronald (Rosanne) Bogue of Lincoln, CA, Gary (Mary Jo) Bogue of Lake View, IA, and Bob (Lori) Bogue of Lake View, IA; grandchildren: Tammy Ryan, Brian Brotherson (Wanda Hawks), Shell Dornath, Rodney (Johna) Bogue, Renee (Sean) Patterson, Travis (Joni) Reiling, Dustin Bogue, Sarah (Dave) Schultz, Nick Bogue (Melissa Shull), Bill (Emily) Bogue, Stephanie (Joe) Schmidgall, and John Bogue; twenty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother Bill (Delores) Phillips; sisters Hellen Weller, Janet Boom, and Judy Matthews; sister-in-law Marilyn Phillips; many other extended family members and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bogue; grandchildren Adam Bogue and Ainsley Bogue; brothers Donald Phillips and Duane Phillips; sister Marge Wiegand; son-in-law Jerry Reiling; brothers-in-law Loren Weller and Robert Boom.
