  Phil Riedell, age 46 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Philip Michael Riedell was born on November 16, 1975, to parents Mike and Marjean Riedell, at Loring Hospital. He was baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA, and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. 

  Phil grew up and attended school in Sac City. He graduated from Sac City High School with the Class of 1994. He attended Iowa State University and graduated from there with a bachelor’s degree in Turf Grass Management. Phil completed his internship in Colorado and started his first job as a groundskeeper at a course in Davenport, IA. He would go on to work at courses in Illinois and Tennessee before returning to Iowa to work at Twin Lakes Golf Club in Rockwell City and finally, at Spring Lake Country Club inWall Lake. His profession suited him so well as he loved being outdoors.

  Phil was blessed with two children, daughter Marissa, and son Maverick. He adored his children and cherished every moment spent with them. They will miss their dad dearly and their message to him is this: “good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite” just as he always said to them before going to bed.

  On October 10, 2020, Phil married Bridget Harms. They resided in Sac City. Together they enjoyed golfing, driving around, spending time with friends and family, and dreaming of the places they would travel to.

  As mentioned above, Phil loved being outdoors. It didn’t matter what he was doing, as long as it was outside he was happy. He liked watching sporting events, even those of his nieces and nephew. He was of course an Iowa State fan and also cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Cubs. If you knew Phil, you knew he had quite the baseball cap collection and he liked shoes ALMOST as much as he liked caps. He enjoyed golfing in his free time and became quite close to many of the course members and workers over the years. 

  Phil was a great guy with an amazing smile and contagious laugh. He was empathetic and always concerned for others’ well-being. He loved to talk and have conversations when out and about. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

  Survivors include his wife, Bridget Riedell of Sac City, IA; children Marrissa and Maverick of Fort Thomas, KY; parents Mike and Marjean Riedell of Sac City, IA; sister Mel (Chris) Dettmann of Humboldt, IA; nieces and nephew Kailee, Corey, and LainaDettmann of Humboldt, IA; dear life-long friend Ruth Mohr of Sac City, IA; many aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended family members and friends.

  Phil was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Joseph and Flotilla Riedell; maternal grandparents Bennie and Angie Freese; father-in-law Douglas “Doug” Harms; several aunts, uncles, and other extended family members.

“My heart goes out to the family at Phil's passing. It hurts me not to see his truck out at the golf course shed and for him to watch me play, stop and talk. He always called me "Mr.Mickelson" I think out of respect to me and always made me out to be a great golfer. While I was waiting for my group to catch up with me on number 9 the other day, I was thinking out loud to Phil that he wouldn't be out here to see some of my sloppy shots anymore. I then chipped in for eagle on that hole. (Phil helped me with that shot and I acknowledged it! I always liked to share my peas,, salsa,, and other stuff I had with him,, knowing how much he liked that stuff. He will be missed.”
