Betty Lou Ellinger

Betty Ellinger, age 88, of Early, IA passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA. Betty Lou Fawcett was born on January 24, 1925, in Auburn, IA, to parents Frank and Loretta (Breon) Fawcett. She grew up in Early, graduating from Crestland High School. She met the love of her life in Don Ellinger and they were married on January 10, 1943, in South Sioux City, NE. They were blessed with four children: Tim, Terry, Tammy, and Toni.

Betty made a loving home for her family as a full time wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved sewing, quilting, dancing and playing cards. She was also a founding member of the Early Hickory Nuts. As a member of the United Methodist Church in Early, she was involved in many committees. Her life’s work was her family and she will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son Terry (Mary) Ellinger of McCook, NE; daughters: Tammy (Mike) Hopkins of The Woodlands, TX, and Toni (Tim) Chancellor of Chadron, NE; daughter-in-law Becky Ellinger of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren: Teresa (Steve) Wells, Todd (Karyn) Ellinger, Tiffany Ellinger, Tate Ellinger, Jessica (John) Withrow, Michael (Mica) Hopkins, John Hopkins, Melissa (Kiel) Carey, and Tim Chancellor; great-grandchildren: Alysha Ritzman, Shane Saathoff, Taylor Ellinger, Temara Ellinger, Tarik Ellinger, Campbell Withrow, Addison Withrow, Carley Withrow, Bryce Hopkins, Joshua Wells, Jonas Sommerville, Sam Carey, and Emily Ellinger; great-great grandchildren: Hailey Pribble, Connor Ritzman, Riley Ritzman and Ivy Ellinger; sister Bernette Austin of Sac City; special friends: Bert Tjebben, Dick and Tonye Merkwan, and Dawn and Larry Freese; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don; her son Tim; parents Frank and Loretta; and sister Bernetah Calhoun.
