   Carole Skarin, age 92 of Lake View, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.

   Carole Ann Nelson was born on July 25th, 1929 in Sac County Iowa. She was the 5th child of Sidney and Sophia (Theodorf) Nelson. She attended country school at Wheeler #7 and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1948.

    Carole married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Skarin on December 7th, 1949 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township. They made their home in Kiron, Iowa. While Bob was busy delivering fuel oil, Carole was busy raising three children, Terry, Tommy, and Vicki, keeping house and volunteering at the Evangelical Free Church in Kiron. Later, she opened a second-hand store in Kiron called “Carole’s Recycle Shop”.

    In 1995 Carole and Bob retired and moved to Lake View Iowa. They were married 51 years when Bob passed away of Alzheimer’s disease in 2002.

   Carole enjoyed going to garage and rummage sales where she found many treasures to add to her collections. She liked decorating her house, growing flowers, and baking. She loved all things Christmas.  It was her favorite time of the year. Carole loved cats and always had one by her side.

    Carole moved to Park View Rehabilitation Center, Sac City Iowa in 2018 where she spent time playing bingo, coloring, and crafts. Carole passed away at Park View Rehabilitation Center on January 12th, 2022 after a brief illness.

    Preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, brothers Emery Nelson, Dean Nelson, and Sidney Nelson, sisters Joyce (Jim) Matre, Gloria (Leonard) Goyer, and Bonnie (Ralph) Boerner.

    Those left behind to cherish her memory include children: Terry Skarin of Lake View Iowa, Tommy Skarin of Ida Grove Iowa and daughter Vicki Skarin (Steve Haslach) of Minneapolis Minnesota; Grandson Alex Haslach (Lindsey) of Plymouth Minnesota and great-granddaughters Penelope and Ahnika Haslach; Sisters in-laws Doris Nelson, Rena Skarin, Carol Skarin; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

    Her family wishes to thank her physician Dr. Pek, the staff of Loring Hospital, and her amazing caregivers at Park View.

 

In lieu of flowers,  the family requests memorials be made to Park View Rehabilitation Center, Sac City Iowa.

“We were sorry to hear about the death of Aunt Carole. We always went to Lake View to visit her when were in Iowa to see Mom, and enjoyed her cats and collections. She remained pretty feisty even as she got older, and also shared the familial stubborn streak! Many people may not know this, but my mother, Bonnie, who was Carole's oldest sister, chose her name when she was born. Mom talked about being excited to do that, and how she helped take care of her baby sister. It's sad to see the last of the Nelson siblings gone, but we have our good memories of them, especially the Sunday afternoons when the clan would gather at Grandma Nelson's house and the Christmas Day dinners and card games.”
