Russell L. Johnson, age 84 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. Russell LeRoy Johnson was born on April 16, 1937, to parents Melvin and Ella (Smith) Johnson in Akron, IA. He graduated from Akron High School. After graduation Russell enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was honorably
discharged.
On April 20, 1958, Russell was united in marriage to Judy Fischer in Sioux City, IA. This union was blessed with five children: Deb, Steve, Brenda, Scott, and Brian. They raised their family in Webster City, IA, and later moved to Sac City. Russell worked for the Department of Transportation, Maudlin Construction, Weaver Construction, and
retired from Hallett Materials in 2002. After retirement you could find Russell fishing. He loved taking his boys fishing and could spend hours out on the lake. He also enjoyed dirt track racing as he followed his boys to area tracks. He enjoyed Nascar racing. Russell cherished his time spent with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren referred to him as Papa and Gramps. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years Judy Johnson of Sac City, IA; children: Debra Peterson of Sac City, IA, Steve (Kim) Johnson of Webster City, IA, Brenda (Dennis) Plain of Fort Dodge, IA, daughter-in-law Tracy Johnson of Webster City, IA; grandchildren: Chad Peterson, Kim Peterson, Kelsey Hoffmeier, Shanda Bergantzel, Rusty Grove, Kari Friedmann, Misty MacKay, Nicole Plain, Jeff Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Jamie Johnson, and Chanin Johnson; 27 great-grandchildren; numerous extended family members and friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his sons Scott Johnson and Brian Johnson; his parents; brother Clifford Johnson; nephew Gary Johnson; and a baby sister.
