   Gerald Spanjer, age 70, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at 8:33 p.m., at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA. Gerald Wilbur Spanjer was born on November ll, 1950, in Sac City, IA to parents Gerhard and Grace (Poen) Spanjer. Gerald grew up in Lake View, IA, and became a life-long resident. He graduated from Lake View High School and attended Iowa State University. After college he joined the United States Army to serve his country and was honorably discharged in 1970. 
   On August 1, 1992, Gerald was united in marriage to Nancy Drost at the United Methodist Church in Sac City. Gerald and Nancy combined their families totaling 7 children: Scott, Brian Andy, Eric, Dana, Denice and Debbie. Gerald and Nancy made their home in Sac City and later moved to Lake View.
   Gerald enjoyed farming and later continued his career at Evapco, but always kept the love of farming alive by helping out Dennis Hinrichs. Gerald loved traveling and especially winters in Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren. 
   Left to cherish his memory are his wife Nancy of Lake View, IA; his children: Scott Spanjer (Dayna Crandell) of Early, IA, Brian (Cheri) Spanjer of Council Bluffs, IA, Andy Spanjer of Lake View, IA, Eric (Karri) Spanjer of Sheldon, IA, Dana (Julia) Drost of Lake View, IA, Denice (Troy) Whipkey of Lake City, IA, and Debbie (David) Rehorst of Sioux Falls, SD; 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; two sisters Joanne (Tony) Dusatko of Omaha, NE, and Janis Myott of Spencer, IA; several extended family members and many friends.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Elaine Johnson of Sac City.

“Condolences from The Werkmeister's. Gerald and I worked side by side in my eight months at evapco. I learned a lot from him. He was all about working smarter, not harder. We definitely had a lot of laughs and conversations during that time.he was the only guy I knew who could drink cold coffee and eat bologna sandwiches every day.
