Lois Mae Hanson Purdy, age 86, of Odebolt, IA, passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at the Odebolt Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Lois was born on a farm East of Odebolt, September 13, 1927, to parents Leslie and Lucille (Randall) Hanson. She attended elementary school in Odebolt but graduated from high school in Galesburg, IL in 1945. She married Paul Leng after graduation and they lived in Galesburg for ten years before moving to Palm Beach County Florida with her parents and uncle. After a divorce in 1965 she married Robert Purdy and moved back to Odebolt in 1966.
Lois enjoyed being a homemaker and did it well. She loved to sew, cook and work on crafts of all types. At one time she owned a craft store in Odebolt and also worked at the nursing home as an activity coordinator. Lois loved people as much as she did crafts and kept in touch with high school friends her entire life. She loved her grandchildren and kept them for weeks each summer. When great grandchildren came along she looked forward to traveling to spend time with them. Lois was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Odebolt and on the board of the Odebolt Community Center.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Ian Edward of Memphis, TN; grandchildren Mairi and husband Eric Albertson of Memphis, TN and Kirsten and husband Charles Griffy of House Springs, MO; great-grandchildren: Maya and Ian Griffy of House Springs; her brother Charles Hanson of Odebolt; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
