JoAnn Bromley, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa. JoAnn was born to Luella (Fagan) and Clarence Carmean on September 7, 1926, of Lytton, IA, the youngest of four children. She was baptized on April 9, 1939, at the Lytton Presbyterian Church in Lytton, IA. She graduated from Lytton High School in 1943 and completed Business College in Marshalltown, IA, in 1945. Following Business College, she moved to Storm Lake, IA, where she worked at a law office.
JoAnn married Gerald Robert Galbraith at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Sac City on December 11, 1944, and this union was blessed with four children: Barbara, Jeanette, Gerald II and Timothy. JoAnn and Gerald farmed until Gerald passed away in 1972.
In 1974, JoAnn married Sherman (Doc) Bromley of Lake View, IA. At that time she worked in the office at Loring Hospital and as the librarian at the Lake View Public Library. Doc and JoAnn enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. With this marriage came five adult step-children: Kenneth, Dennis, Greg, Marsha and Jeff Bromley. Doc passed away in 1982.
JoAnn later retired and enjoyed doing volunteer work in the Sac City community. In 2000, she married Delmar Corderman of Sac City and moved into Oak Terrace Estates independent living apartments. With this marriage came one additional step-child, Janice Corderman. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Delmar passed away in 2002.
JoAnn always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was active in her church, from days of teaching Sunday school through attending Bible studies. She was also active in Eastern Star. When her family was growing up she enjoyed baking. Sunday dinner often consisted of a roast in the cast iron roaster and homemade dinner rolls. A special treat was her homemade cinnamon rolls. A few activities that she enjoyed throughout the years were scrapbooking, dancing, playing cards, playing board games, reading and jig-saw puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling with family and going on bus tours with friends.
In the summer of 2016, she moved from Oak Terrace independent living apartments, where she had lived for sixteen years, to Park Place Assisted Living. In the fall of 2016, she moved from Park Place Assisted living into Park View Rehabilitation Center, and in 2019, she moved to Twilight Acres.
JoAnn leaves behind her four children: Barbara (Jess) Knight of Sac City, IA, Jeanette (James) Chupp of Des Moines, IA, Gerald (Kendra) Galbraith II of Salem, IL, and Tim (Kim) Galbraith of Lake View, IA; three step-children: Marsha Dowdell of Triadelphia, WV, Jeff Bromley of Peterson, IA, and Janice Corderman of Pleasant Hill, IA; eight grandchildren: Valerie Knight Palmersheim of Fairfield, IA; Victoria (William Buchanan) Knight of Fairfield, IA, Jason (Tiffany) Druivenga of Pleasant Hill, IA, Jeffrey (Paula) Galbraith of Wheaton, IL, Allison Galbraith Roller of Jefferson City, MO, Abby Galbraith Bean of Prairie Village, KS, Tess (Rob) McPherson of Flagstaff, AZ; five step-grandchildren: Bobby Blessington of Lincoln, NE, Justin Chupp of West Des Moines, IA, Brian Chupp of Homosassa, FL, Stephan Walsh of Seminole, FL, and David Walsh of Salem, IL; eleven great-grandchildren: Yvonne Noyes, Kaitlyn Palmersheim, Victor Palmersheim, Chaz Wohnoutka, Alejandra Galbraith, Jackson Galbraith, Olivia Galbraith, Cameron Roller, Corie Roller and Brandy Bean; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Luella Carmean; three husbands: Gerald Galbraith, Sherman (Doc) Bromley and Delmar Corderman; two sisters and one brother: IdaLou Mason, Pat Ocheltree and Davis Carmean; step-grandson Brent Blessington; three step-children: Kenneth, Dennis and Greg Bromley.
