Barb Cook, age 80 of Sac City, IA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City.

Barbara Nell Olive was born on October 10, 1940, to parents James Samuel Nolan and Floy (McPherson) Olive in Greene County, Arkansas, one of five children. She and her family moved to Iowa when she was a child. Barb graduated from Chariton High School with the Class of 1958 and was baptized in the Saylorville Baptist Church that same year.

On September 6, 1958, Barb married the love of her life, Dale Cook, in Chariton. This union was blessed with a son, Timothy. They raised their son in Sac City where Barb was a babysitter in her home for twenty years before she started as the site manager at the Senior Center where she cooked and served congregate meals for the next twenty-eight years before retiring on September 1, 2005.

Barb loved life and enjoyed doing so many things throughout hers. She was an active member of her church serving as president of Church Women United, was a Sunday School teacher, and just enjoyed working with any and all youth through her church. Barb served as secretary of the Sac City Welfare Board for twenty-one years.

Outside of work and spending time with her family, Barb enjoyed crafting, reading, embroidering, cross-stitching, and of course cooking and baking. She and her family also had a love of camping and made many memories over the years as they camped all over. Something Barb and Dale really enjoyed doing together was watching the birds gather at the bird feeders they had placed around the outside of their house.

If you knew Barb, you knew how social she was. She had a genuine love for others and loved having family and friends over to visit. Her family meant the world to her. She was very proud of each and every one of them. Barb was a Christian that had strong faith. Rest assured she is living in eternal glory, once again with the love of her life, Dale, in God’s heavenly paradise. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory include her son, Tim (Diane) Cook of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Michael, Josh, Shawn, Joe, Jeremey, and Amanda; great-grandchildren: Taylor, Madison, Christian, Avery, Keaton, Kyle, Madyson, and Aspen; great-great-granddaughter Elena; sister Neva Hanawalt-Wells of Pleasant Hill, IA; sisters-in-law Ruby Walker of Knoxville, IA, and Vera (Clarence) Walker of Des Moines, IA; many extended family members and friends.

Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Nolan and Floy Olive; stepfather Lloyd Hanawalt; parents-in-law William and Florence Cook; brothers: Buford, Truman and Odean Olive.

“Barb and my mother, Ila, were roommates these last few years. They enjoyed each other and visited so very much. They both enjoyed watching the bird feeders and Barb stored bird seed under Mom's bed (shh - don't tell) I felt so bad when Barb was moved to another room, and I know Mom will miss her so very much. Barb was one of those special people you just couldn't help but love and you have our sincere sympathy.”
