Lynn “Hec” Ramsey, age 62 of Sac City, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Lynn W. Ramsey was born on November 20, 1957, the only child, to parents Lester and Wilma (Olerich) Ramsey at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Hec grew up with his parents on their farm just outside of Sac City, attended Sac City Community Schools and graduated from Sac City High School with the Class of 1976. He then attended Lincoln Tech in Des Moines, IA, for automotive repair. After graduating, Hec remained living on the family farm, a place he held very close to his heart.
Over the years he farmed and raised cattle, alongside owning and operating Hec's Welding and Auto Repair. He then worked for Speed’s Automotive Supply for eleven years.
On February 24, 1990, Hec married Marlene Purdie, at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton, IA. They were blessed with four children: Jennifer, Barbara, Christopher, and Tonya. Hec was a dedicated man to both his family and friends. He had a huge heart for helping others and will always be remembered for that.
Hec retired in 2016 and found out very quickly that he would find himself busier than he ever was before he was retired. He enjoyed keeping busy though. He helped his close friend, Dave Irwin, farm, as well as several others. Hec did many odd jobs these past few years for anyone that needed help. When he wasn’t working he could be found riding his Harley. Riding motorcycles was a fun family event that involved his wife and children riding theirs as well. He also enjoyed deer hunting as well as trapshooting.
Hec was one of the ‘nice guys’….the type that you couldn’t help but like. His smile and mostly quiet/gentle ways will be so missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Marlene Ramsey of Sac City, IA; children: Jennifer (Mike) Thayer of Odebolt, IA, Barbara Ramsey (Stephanie Kroft) of Bellevue, NE, Christopher Ramsey of Sac City, IA, and Tonya Ramsey of Sac City, IA; grandchildren: Chanin Johnson (Jeremy Buschmann), Aleisha, Brett, and Denae Thayer, Oliver and Declan Ramsey, and Hayley Ramsey; one great-grandchild, Henry Buschmann; mother-in-law Mildred Purdie of Rockwell City, IA; brothers-in-law Arlin (Debbie) Purdie of Altoona, IA, Bob (Jody) Purdie of Mitchellville, IA, and Marlyn Purdie of Lytton, IA; many extended family members and friends.
Hec was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Wilma Ramsey; an infant daughter; father-in-law David Purdie; grandparents-in-law Edward and Nelma Rix; and cousin-in-law Valerie Rockafellow.
