Kevin Garrels, age 50 of Chapin, IA, formerly of Lake View, IA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 3, 2020, while at work in Sheffield, IA. Kevin Lynn Garrels was born on February 26, 1969, in Manning, IA, to parents Gerald and Barbara Garrels (Friesner). He grew up and attended school in Lake View where he was a football and track star during his high school years. After graduation, Kevin attended NIACC in Mason City, IA.

   In March of 1990, Kevin married Corina Fellmet. This union was blessed with four children: Charissa, Bryce, Chelsi, and Marisa. They later divorced. Kevin happily spent the last 7 years with the love of his life and best friend, Julie Payer. Julie’s sons, Dunovan, Marcus, and Lucas also held a very special place in Kevin’s heart.

   Over the years, Kevin worked at Van Diest Supply Company in Webster City, IA, Tri Lite Windows in Boone, IA, Percival Scientific Incorporated in Perry, IA, and was currently working at Sukup Manufacturing Company in Sheffield. He loved all sports.  He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Kevin also enjoyed watching the North Iowa Bulls Hockey team.

    Above all, Kevin loved his family. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. They, along with all of his loved ones, siblings, and dear friends, will miss him deeply.

   Those left to cherish his memory include his love, Julie Payer of Chapin, IA; his children: Charissa (Jeff) Haman of Stratford, IA, Bryce (Ariel Schlief) Garrels of Fort Dodge, IA, Chelsi (Zach Milligan) Garrels of Coalville, IA, and Marisa (Riley Mishler) Garrels of Webster City, IA; Julie’s children: Dunovan, Marcus, and Lucas McKinnon all of Mason City, IA; grandchildren: Alexis and Carter Haman, Braylee, Bruce, Bria, and Brentley Milligan; siblings: Susan (Marvin) Stueland of Webster City, IA, Dennis (Penny) Garrels of Lake View, IA, Roland (Annie) Garrels of Cypress, CA, Connie (Bob) Taylor of Newell, IA, Jim (Lisa) Garrels of Lake View, IA, Tammy (Darwin) Huseman of Pomeroy, IA, and sister-in-law Kris Garrels of Ankeny, IA; many extended family members and friends. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Barbara Garrels; and brother Steven Garrels.
