Lonnie Lee Rubendall, age 70 of Sac City, IA, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, IA.  Lonnie was born on June 24, 1949, in Sac City to Oscar and Betty (Finley) Rubendall. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Sac City and graduated from Sac City High School with the Class of 1967.  He also completed four years at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. 

     Following graduation Lonnie was inducted into the United States Army on May 1^st, 1969.  He was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War serving in the C Battery 2^nd Battalion, 60^th Artillery.  He was honorably discharged on April 30, 1971.  He continued his service in the Army Reserve. He married Patricia Weitzel in May of 1971 and together they had two children, Troy and Eric, and later divorced in 2008. 

     Lonnie worked for the City of Sac City and then for the Postal Service in Sac City for many years.  He was a member of the Sac Community School Board and Mayor of Sac City for four years.  He farmed near Sac City, and enjoyed hanging out at the Rubendall Ranch taking care of his cattle and gardening.  He also loved to go boating and traveling.  He was very proud of his two sons and loved spending time with his grandchildren. 

     Survivors include his fiancée Beverly Hild;  his sons: Troy (Jennifer) Rubendall of Lawton, IA, and Eric (Nicolle) Rubendall of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren: Tori and Addison Rubendall; brothers: Leon (Roxy) Rubendall of Sac City, Todd Rubendall of Sac City, and Vernon Rubendall of Sac City; his sisters: Linda (Joe) Passow of Duncombe, IA, Loreli (Jim) Anderson of Fulshear, TX, Loretta Mallett of Cape Canaveral, FL, and Tricia Olsson of Rockledge, FL; He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

     Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Betty Rubendall, and brother Loren Rubendall.

     In lieu of plants/flowers, please direct any memorials to the Lonnie Rubendall family as they will be applied to Sac County Fairgrounds improvements in Lonnie’s name.
