Kathryn Norris, age 95 of Nemaha, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA. Kathryn Delores Anderson was born on October 16, 1923, to parents John and Mary (Jacobson) Anderson in Wakonda, SD. She attended grade school at Bethel County School across the road from their farm where her sister Dorothy was her first grade teacher. Kathryn graduated as valedictorian with the class of 1941 from Wakonda Consolidated School. She then continued her education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD, and graduated in 1945 with a degree in home economics education. She taught in Larchwood, IA, Hartington, NE, and Avon, SD. After marriage, she continued to substitute teach.
While teaching in Avon, SD, Kathryn met and later married George W. Norris of Wahoo, NE, on August 20, 1949, at Wakonda Baptist Church. This union was blessed with four children: Jack, David, Michael and Georgia. Kathryn and her family moved to Nemaha in 1958, where George taught and became elementary principal for Crestland Consolidated School District of Early and Nemaha.
Kathryn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nemaha where she held many offices as a member of the United Methodist Women. She also wrote the Nemaha News for local papers for many years and was a member of the Nemaha Federated Women's Club.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband George of Nemaha, IA; children: Jack of Euless, TX, David of Houston, TX, Michael (Lu Ann) of Lake View, IA, and Georgia Norris Vajpeyi of Cedar Rapids, IA; three granddaughters: Kristen Norris of Sac City, IA, Stephanie (Matt) Strode of Minneapolis, MN, and Shawna Norris (fiancé Chad Reddick) of Glendale, CA; three grandsons: Kyle Norris of Sac City, IA, Eashaan Vajpeyi of Cedar Falls, IA, and Varun Vajpeyi of Denver, CO; great-granddaughter Marlowe; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Carol Anderson and Dorothy (Nels) Petersen; two brothers: Willard (Marjorie) Anderson and Russel (Leone) Anderson; brothers-in-law: V. Lee (Alphadeen) Norris and Leon (Olive) Norris; and sister-in-law Maxine (Alvin) Goerken.
