Irene A. Galloway, age 87, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Webster City, IA. Irene was born on June 27, 1926, in St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, IA to Joseph and Clara Wegman Heinrichs. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda. She grew up on a farm southwest of Breda and attended school in Breda and the Wheatland #6 Country School through eighth grade and St. Angels Academy.

On November 15, 1947, Irene was united in marriage to Irwin L. Galloway in St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda by Reverend LeRoy Frank. They made their home in Carroll until September 1950. They moved to Sac City and bought the Wigwam Bakery and after 30 years retired in 1980.

Irene was a caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in the bakery, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, volunteering, and loved playing cards. She was a member of the National Catholic Forester. She enjoyed entering things in the County Fair. She had many ribbons to show for her efforts in baking, canning, and flower exhibits.

Survivors include her children: Robert (Kathi) Galloway of Smithfield, NC; Clara (Rolen) Hill of Ellsworth, IA; and Paul Galloway of Omaha, NE; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; one great-great step grandson; sister Ethel Tiefenthaler of Breda; brothers-in-law and wives: Richard (Maxine) Galloway of Moville, IA, Jim (Teresa) Galloway of Fresno, CA, and Donald (Cynthia) Galloway of Eveleth, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
