Keith Dean Flink was born April 21, 1950, in Carroll, IA, the son of Earl and Lucille (Linde) Flink. He was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church. Growing up in Odebolt he attended Odebolt-Arthur Schools, graduating in 1968. He then attended the University of South Dakota from 1968-70. From 1971-77, he was a member of the US Army Reserve.

Keith married Joyce Arbegast on July 12, 1974. After he and Joyce were married they made their home in Odebolt where they raised their family. He was a City Maintenance Worker for the City of Odebolt and a Custodian for the Odebolt-Arthur Community School system. Keith’s law enforcement career began as part-time police officer in 1971 for the City of Odebolt. He became the Odebolt Chief of Police in 1977. He then became a deputy with the Sac County Sheriff’s Department in 1983. He retired from law enforcement in 2011. He then worked at Lundell Plastics Corporation in Odebolt.

Keith was a member of the Iowa Crime Prevention Association, Odebolt City Council, St. Martin Catholic Church, and the “I” Club. He gave many presentations to teach about Crime Prevention and the dangers of drugs and alcohol. He received many awards for this including the 2001 National Enrique Camarena Award. He was a people person. He loved and enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, working outside in the yard, gardening, fishing, hunting, but most dear to him was his family. He was there for his children growing up, and later when they had children of their own, he loved being a grandpa!

Keith passed away on March 1, 2014 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; three children: Jeana (Chris) Boyd (Clive, IA), Justin (Amy) Flink (Herriman, UT), Jory Flink (Sioux City, IA); five grandchildren: Carter & Haley Boyd (Jeana), Austin Flink (Justin), Hunter & Brooklyne Flink (Jory); two sisters, Judy (Arlin) Bunge (Wall Lake, IA) and Nancy Flink (Odebolt, IA); two brothers, Steve (Deb) Flink (Odebolt, IA) and Randy Flink (St. Louis, MO); several nieces and nephews; and extended family members.
