Robert “Bob” Green, age 72, of Lake View, IA, passed away, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA, following a courageous 19 year battle with cancer. Bob was born on June 14, 1941, in Smithland, IA, to Dale and Vera (Huffman) Green. He attended school in Smithland. On January 7, 1959, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Thomas J. Gary out of Newport, Rhode Island as a boiler room helper. He received an honorable discharge on July 5, 1962.
Bob was married to Glenda Dau and a son Bobby and daughter Billi Jo were born to this union. They later divorced. A daughter Diny was born to his marriage to Diane Sundberg. They were also divorced. Bob married the love of his life, Susan Bengford, on May 22, 1976 in Kiron, IA. They were blessed with a daughter Cristina.
Cooking has always been Bob’s passion. He was the creator of Piccadilly Circus Pizza and opened El Matador in Odebolt. When he moved to Las Vegas he worked as a pit boss for Circus Circus and in 1989 when they moved back to Lake View he owned and operated the Country Inn which in 2009 they revamped into Jerzees. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcyle, cars and watching television. He retired from Jerzee’s in 2011.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife Susan of Lake View; son Bobby Green of Las Vegas, NV; daughters: Billi Jo Banks of Spencer, IA; Diny Hanson of Minneapolis, MN; and Cristina (Bryan) Elliott of Swea City, IA; grandchildren: Bobby Jr., Sean, Tara, Kris, Kyle, Alex, Zane, Kole, Jerzee, Calvin, Connor and Kaydence; great-grandchildren: Sofia, Andrea, Julian, Sebastian and Mia. Other survivors include his brothers: Danny Green of Correctionville, IA and Ronnie Green of Sioux City, IA; sister Thelma Green of Correctionville, IA; mother-in-law Charlotte Bengford of Odebolt, IA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dean and Lourie Bengford of Cape Coral, FL, Julie Schenkelberg of Arnolds Park, IA, Steve and Deb Bengford of Arthur, IA, and Darrell and Tracy Bengford of Odebolt, IA; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
