Gale Carstens, age 80, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA. Gale was born on May 6, 1938, to parents Conrad and Ella (Aronson) Carstens in Denison, IA. He grew up on a farm near Berne, IA and he graduated from Charter Oak High School. His friends called him Costo.
In May of 1958, Gale was united in marriage to Sally Rosburg. This union was blessed with four children: Teri, Dean, Kevin and Curt. Gale spent most of his adult life as a Police Officer, from Charter Oak Marshall, to Deputy Sheriff of Crawford County, to Denison Chief of Police. In 1981 he became Chief of Police in Lake View, where he became known as Cop which is his nickname today.
Gale was a member of the Masonic lodge, was a Shriner, and was Chief of the Charter Oak Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, watching NASCAR, and being with friends for events big and small. He is remembered as a fair-minded person in his work as well as in his life.
Survivors include his children: Teri Carstens of Atlanta, GA, Dean Carstens (special friend Rhonda) of Carroll, IA, Kevin (Colleen) Carstens of Nashville, TN, Curt Carstens (special friend Dawnie) of Carroll, IA; grandchildren: Jeremy, Josh, Emily, Mollie, Bre, Ron, Cade and Kylie; great-grandchildren: Leah, Teck and Keenan; sister Maureen Holtorf; brothers: Lowell (Bud) and Jack; many extended family members and friends.
Gale was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lawrence Carstens and sister Donna Mae Carstens.
