Raymond Vogel, age 91, of Newell, IA, passed away in Scottsdale, AZ, on Tuesday, December 17, 2018. Raymond was born on April 16, 1927, on a farm outside Lake View, IA, to Fred and Pauline (Stahl) Vogel. He grew up on the farm and attended country school in Lake View. In 1938 his family moved to Nemaha, IA, where he attended Delaware Township School. Raymond was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith.
Immediately after graduation, Raymond was inducted into the United States Army, serving his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged on January 3, 1947, returning home to farm. Later on that year Raymond was united in marriage to Eugenia Shaw on December 12, 1947 in Sac City, IA, they celebrated 71 years of marriage. This union was blessed with a daughter, Linda. They made their home in Newell where Raymond farmed the land. He was a long time member of the V.F.W. in Alta, IA and enjoyed traveling. You could always find Raymond outside or fishing. He loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors left to cherish Raymond’s memory include his wife Genie Vogel of Newell, IA; daughter Linda (Dennis) Coiro of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren: Matthew (Annie) Converse of Peoria, AZ, Lisa (Jay) Nestle of Churchville, MD and Sheila (Jim) Fields of Anthem, AZ; eight great-grandchildren; brother Roy (Jan) Vogel of Bella Vista, AK; sister Arlene (Wayne) Spier of Gretna, NE; sister-in-law Coleen Vogel of Storm Lake, IA; many extended family members and friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dale and Ralph Vogel.
