Audrey Lamaak, age 83, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA.
Audrey Mae (Schluter) Lamaak was born on May 30, 1935 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, IA to parents Emil and Violetta (Witt) Schluter. She was baptized on June 30, 1935 at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia by Reverend Theo Tews and confirmed on April 10, 1949 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake by Reverend Alfred Christiansen. Audrey grew up on the Schluter farm and graduated from Wall Lake High School with the class of 1953.
On February 25, 1955, Audrey was united in marriage to John J. Lamaak at the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake by Reverend O.E. Weise. This union was blessed with four children: Daryl, Vicki, Keith and Janet. Her first eight years of marriage was her only time not living on the Schluter farm.
Audrey raised her family and volunteered as a file clerk for the Alumni Association for 30 years. She was very active in her community and loved being involved. She was a board member for the Farm Festival for 30 years and a Ladies Aid member where she held many offices. Audrey was the Sac City zone president for four years where she attended many district conventions at Camp Okoboji and went to five national conventions. She was also a member of the Wall Lake Auxilliary for 50 years. In her spare time, Audrey volunteered at Twilight Acres and loved to play cards. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Violetta Schluter; parents-in-law John and Carrie Lamaak; grandson Daniel Joseph Wilwerding; sister Lorraine Schluter; five brothers-in-law: Marvin, Cecil and Donald Lamaak, Walt Craig and Wesley Paulson; two sisters-in-law: Ruby Paulson and Carolyn Schluter.
She is survived by her husband John of 63 years; children: Daryl Lamaak (Fiancé Shelly Pope) of Wall Lake, IA, Vicki Vanderbilt of Altoona, IA, Keith (LeAnn) Lamaak of Britt, IA, Janet (Gail) Wilwerding of Odebolt, IA; six grandchildren: SFC Jonathon Vanderbilt of Fort McCoy, WI, Kari (Chris) Winters of Sully, IA, Steven Wilwerding of Carroll, IA, Kayla Wilwerding (Fiancé Joshua Wilson) of Johnston, IA, Amy Wilwerding of Carroll, IA, Rachel Wilwerding of Sioux City, IA; seven great-grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan, Alexis, Aalyiah, Ellianna, Ethan and Alexander; sisters: Ruth (Wade) Bruggeman of Charter Oak, IA, Rita (Bill) Hicks of Lake City, IA; brother Gerald Schluter of Pulaski, VA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
